Louisville Regatta Grand Prix Set For Next Month

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A different kind of thunder is coming to the downtown Louisville waterfront next month.

The Louisville Regatta Grand Prix will bring two boat racing series to the Ohio River August 18 through the 20th.

The event will feature two divisions of the International Outboard Grand Prix, the 17 foot long F-1 boats and the 30 foot X-Boats.

Organizers say the event will be more fan-friendly and accessible than the Unlimited Hydroplane race in Madison, Indiana.

Driver Chris Fairchild says they will hit speeds around 130 miles per hour on a course that will take them under the Clark Memorial Bridge in a style of racing he says compares to that of NASCAR.
