FRANKFORT, Ky -- Drug manufacturers are profiting from Kentucky's opioid epidemic and Attorney General Andy Beshear wants to make them pay Beshear is issuing a Request for Proposal for law firms to represent the state in potential lawsuits against major drug manufacturers.
Beshear says the RFP would require the firm to take the case on a contingency basis, meaning there would be no cost to Kentucky taxpayers, but holds out the possibility of a large financial reward for the state budget. Beshear says the RFP is open for about 45 days, at that time work will begin to identify targets of the lawsuit.
He is also asking that any awards that come from lawsuit settlements or victories be applied by the General Assembly to fund the battle against the state's drug addiction epidemic.
