LOUISVILLE, KY -- Two new lowland gorillas will soon arrive at the Louisville Zoo in hopes of creating a new family. Zoo Assistant Director Steve Taylor says 35 year old silverback gorilla Casey will be the first to arrive, he's coming from Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. The second is 19 year old female will arrive at a late date. No firm date on his arrival, but it will be "soon."
The hope is Casey will become the lead gorilla of a new family that group that will include one year old Kindi and his surrogate mother Kwelli. Lowland gorillas are considered endangered with about 100,000 believed to exist in the remnant wild.
Casey's is expected to help increase the gorilla family, there's no time-table for his first public appearance.
