LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A year after a shooting at the Pegasus Parade, LMPD says there is no reason to skip this year's event.
After the shooting involving three teens near Fourth and Broadway, LMPD Chief Steve Conrad says he's putting more officers along the route with an emphasis on plainclothes officers behind the bleachers.
Conrad says the officers on the street will be supplemented by temporary cameras and officers watching the route from downtown rooftops.
He says the department can't guarantee there won't be an incident but they've done everything they can to make it a safe event, adding it would be a shame for someone to skip the parade based on what happened last year.
Kentucky Derby Festival officials say the parade usually draws between 200,000 and 250,000 each year.
