LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A police chase turns deadly.
It happened early Monday near Churchill Downs, when police spotted a car that had been stolen in a carjacking.
When officers tried to stop the car, the driver sped off, leading to a police chase that ended when the car slammed into a utility pole at 3rd and Southern Parkway.
Police Chief Steve Conrad says all three people in the car were thrown out and one was dead at the scene. The other two are in the hospital.
Conrad says department policy does allow pursuits involving a "dangerous felony". The two officers involved are on routine administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
