Sypher Released from Prison, Sent to Halfway House

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Karen Sypher is out of prison.

The woman who tried to extort money from University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino was moved from a federal prison in Alabama to an undisclosed halfway house.

The 56-year-old Sypher is now reporting to a Residential Reentry Management field office in Nashville, which runs halfway houses in Tennessee and Kentucky.

In 2011, Sypher was convicted of lying to the FBI and trying to extort money from Pitino following a sexual encounter with the coach.    She was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Federal inmates usually serve their last six months at a halfway house.
