Kindergarten Cutoff Date Moves Up

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky's kindergarten cutoff is moving.

Starting this fall, any child starting kindergarten in Kentucky must be five years old on or before August 1. The new date is two months earlier than the previous cutoff and was changed by the General Assembly in 2012 to give younger students a better chance of success. The legislation also offers parents the ability to request a wavier for early enrollment if their child doesn't meet the new cutoff date.
