Mayor Fischer's Budget Focuses On Reimagining Public Safety

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer has delivered his 2022 budget address.

The $986 million dollar budget focuses on accelerating the city’s economic recovery with a focus on equity.

Funding for public safety more than tripled to $19.5 million. That includes $5 million for programs aimed at bringing social workers in with, or in lieu, of police.

The mayor’s proposal would keep funding for the Louisville Metro Police Department flat.

The budget also proposes spending on programs to build wealth in minority communities, job training opportunities and small business assistance.

Revenue is expected to grow and the budget does not include any major budget cuts

Fischer’s plan does not include $430 million in federal stimulus funds expected to be delivered to the city over the course of the next year.
