(Louisville, KY) - Jefferson County Public Schools students are starting to return for in-person learning.
The district's hybrid plan has students returning in phases with some Kindergarten through 2nd graders in class on Wednesday. The plan includes a number of safety precautions to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus and expedite contact tracing.
JCPS expects about 35 percent of students to continue to learn virtually.
Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio says he's especially excited for the return of students this year. It's been more than a year since students were in JCPS classrooms due to the coronavirus outbreak.
About 7,000 students will return to school Wednesday as part of the district's hybrid plan.
JCPS expects 60 percent of its more than 96,000 students will return for in-person learning by April 5th.
