UofL Leaders Discuss NCAA Notice Of Allegations

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville has received a notice of allegations from the NCAA that accuses the men's basketball program of committing violations involving the federal "pay-for-play" corruption probe by the FBI.

The investigation involves an alleged scheme by an Adidas executive to pay recruit Brian Bowen to commit to Louisville. The NCAA also alleges former coach Rick Pitino failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance.

UofL President Neeli Bendapudi says the school "will not hesitate to push back" against the allegations that are not supported by fact or NCAA law.  Asked if there will be self-imposed sanctions, Bendapudi said "No."

Louisville Athletics Director Vince Tyra says the notice of allegations were not a surprise. But he notes it does not include "lack of institutional control," and he believes UofL will not get the death penalty.

The Cardinals vacated the 2013 NCAA title after a previous scandal involving strippers.

The school has 90 days to respond to the NCAA allegations.
