(Washington, DC) - By an overwhelming vote of 96-1, the Senate has approved an eight-point-three-billion-dollar coronavirus emergency spending bill.
The lone no vote was cast Thursday by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky. He opposed the measure after an amendment he introduced to offset the spending with cuts elsewhere was shot down.
The spending package is aimed at helping states and the federal government respond to the growing coronavirus threat. That includes money to help speed development of a coronavirus vaccine.
President Trump is expected to sign the bill on Friday.
