(Louisville, KY) - When JCPS has its own school security force in place, their officers will be known as school safety officers or SSOs, not school resource officers.
JCPS says SROs belong to outside police agencies, while SSOs are employed directly by the school district.
The JCPS policy committee has said SSOs will go through 40 hours of state training, as well as extra required training by JCPS.
The meeting outlined the general purpose of the SSOs, while a meeting next week will cover details, like weapons and uniforms.
