Ordinance Passes Making Pot Possession Lowest Priority For Police

(Louisville, KY) - Louisville Metro Council is making marijuana possession the lowest law enforcement priority.

The ordinance passed Tuesday encourages police not to arrest or cite someone for being in possession of small amounts of pot.

The aim is to give LMPD discretion when an adult is found with less than half an ounce of marijuana and isn't causing harm to others.

Marijuana possession is classified as a misdemeanor by Kentucky law carrying up to 45 days in jail.
