LMPD Prepares For Traffic Stop Policy Changes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville's chief of police is giving more details about new traffic stop procedures.

Concerns were raised after controversial traffic stops involving African-American drivers.

Addressing the Metro Council, LMPD Chief Steve Conrad said the new policies are meant to improve the relationship between the community and police.

Under the new policies, officers will be trained not to remove people from cars during routine stops.

Officers will also be told not to handcuff people who are not under arrest.

The new policies will go into affect on August 1.
