LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A bipartisan group of Louisville Metro Council members explain why they voted against a proposed tax increase.
15 members voted against an increase of the insurance premium tax, meaning the city will have to make $35 million in budget cuts.
Some of those members believe the city can find ways to raise revenue without making drastic cuts to public safety.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the mayor writes "The mayor and his team are working on a budget proposal to present on April 25. As always, the mayor will work with the Council’s budget committee during the budget formation process."
The council will vote on a final budget in June.
