LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- More money is up for grabs in the Kentucky Derby.
Churchill Downs has raised the purse for the Run for the Roses from $2 million to $3 million. It's the first increase in 14 years.
The Kentucky Derby is among more than a dozen stakes races getting purse hikes, including the Kentucky Oaks, which is now worth $1.25 million.
Churchill Downs says the increases in prize money were made possible by $10 million in revenue from Derby City Gaming, the track's historical racing machine facility.
