PIKEVILLE, Ky. - A man who admitted killing a Pikeville, Kentucky Police Officer will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
John Russell Hall confessed to fatally shooting 35-year-old Officer Scotty Hamilton on the night of March 13th. Prosecutors say Hamilton was searching for Hall and was ambushed when he walked behind a home where Hall was hiding.
After hearing Hall's guilty plea at a pre-trial hearing Wednesday morning, a judge sentenced Hall to life in prison without the possibility of parole. With his plea, Hall avoids the death penalty.
He also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
