FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky Attorney General and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andy Beshear says expanded gaming could solve Kentucky's pension crisis.
Beshear is calling on state lawmakers to boost the pension system in the upcoming session by creating a dedicated source of revenue -- expanding gaming. He says the approach would then free up other sources of state revenue to fund education, fight the drug epidemic and provide health care.
Lawmakers passed a pension reform bill earlier this year, but Beshear sued to stop its implementation, and the case is currently before the Kentucky Supreme Court.
Beshear says Kentuckians spend over $1 billion of their entertainment dollars in casinos at bordering states.
