(Morehead, KY) - Kim Davis has lost her re-election bid to remain as Rowan County Clerk.
Democrat Elwood Caudill Jr. has defeated Davis by a comfortable margin.
Davis went to jail in 2015 for refusing to issue marriage licenses after same-sex marriage became legal.
Their race was a rematch of the 2014 Democratic primary, where Davis beat Caudill by 23 votes.
Davis later switched parties because she said the Democratic party “abandoned her.” She ran as a Republican, seeking a second four-year term to a job that pays her about $80,000 a year.
