LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The first of the victims of the Kroger shooting are laid to rest today while local ministers continue their push to strengthen Kentucky's hate crime laws.
As 69 year old Maurice Stallard is laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, a group of local ministers continues their push to get the man accused of killing him charged with a hate crime.
The Interdenominational Ministerial Coalition is leading the charge to get last week's Kroger shooting classified as a federal hate crime, a designation the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting received within hours.
The ministers along with Mayor Fischer are also asking for changes to the state hate crime law which currently does not cover murder.
The funeral for the second victim, Vicki Lee Jones, is set for Saturday.
