(Louisville, KY) - The JCPS Board of Education has approved a $1.7 billion dollar working budget.
Pay raises for teachers, stipends for educators who work at low-performing schools, and funds for expanding the district's early education program are part of the 2018-19 spending plan.
Nearly $11 million will be used to expand the district's early education program, making three-and-four-year-olds eligible.
That's after JCPS gave up its $15 million Head Start grant in May over problems with student abuse and neglect.
JCPS Accepts State's Corrective Action Plan
JCPS is accepting the Kentucky Department of Education's Corrective Action Plan.
The plan accepted by the district's board will go into effect on October 1st.
Last spring's audit by the KDE identified nearly 60 deficiencies within JCPS.
Both sides agreed to a corrective action plan avoiding a state takeover.
Nearly 100 JCPS Teaching Positions Open
JCPS has nearly 100 open teaching positions.
That's down from nearly 150 when the school year started last month.
The district says it's offering relocation packages for teachers who live more than 100 miles away and also going after education students at local universities and colleges.
JCPS is also offering high school students interested in education careers help through its Teaching and Learning Pathway program.
