Ex-Louisville Cop Indicted on Perjury, Tampering Charges

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A former Louisville police detective has been indicted in connection with the wrongful convictions of several men.

Mark Handy is facing charges of perjury and tampering with evidence.

He's accused of coercing a confession from Edwin Chandler, who spent nine years in prison for a murder he didn't commit.       The indictment also alleges Handy tampered with evidence in the case of Keith West, who went to prison for shooting two men.

Handy was a Louisville Metro Police homicide detective.   He left LMPD to join the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and retired earlier this year.

Handy is scheduled to be arraigned next month.
