(LOUISVILLE, KY) - A fatal accident Thursday morning shut down eastbound lanes of the Watterson Expressway.
It happened after a semi struck a vehicle from behind causing the vehicle to spin into oncoming traffic.
The vehicle came to rest under the semi. The driver was killed.

About 10:30 this morning, The LMPD responded to a vehicle collision on I-264 eastbound at Bardstown Rd. Our preliminary investigation reveals that a Semi- gas tanker was operating in the center lane of traffic on I-264 eastbound when the operator attempted to merge into the right lane of traffic, and struck the rear end of a Mazda Miata that was also eastbound on I-264. As a result, the Mazda was sent spinning in traffic, and collided with another vehicle that was also eastbound on I-264. The Mazda then had it final resting place under the Semi- Gas tanker. The driver of the Mazda received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating.
