Officials in Ohio have warned that President Joe Biden may not appear on the ballot in the general election in November. The office of Secretary of State Frank LaRose sent a letter to Ohio Democratic Chair Liz Walters, which was first obtained by ABC News, warning that the Democratic National Convention occurs after the state's August 7 deadline to certify a candidate.

The Democratic National Convention begins on August 19 in Chicago, Illinois.

"The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to convene on August 19, 2024, which occurs more than a week after the August 7 deadline to certify a presidential candidate to the office," the letter explained.

There are two options to rectify the issue. The Democrats can either move up the date of their convention or ask Ohio lawmakers to create an exception for the requirement.

"I am left to conclude that the Democratic National Committee must either move up its nominating convention or the Ohio General Assembly must act by May 9, 2024 (90 days prior to a new law's effective date) to create an exception to this statutory requirement," legal counsel Paul Disantis wrote.

A spokesperson for the Biden campaign told NBC News, "We're monitoring the situation in Ohio, and we're confident that Joe Biden will be on the ballot in all 50 states."
