Jury Favors Officer in Whistleblower Suit

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A jury has ruled in favor of a Louisville Metro Police officer who filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the city.

Lt. Jimmy Harper claimed he was demoted in retaliation for his criticism of Chief Steve Conrad's department policies.

The jury awarded Harper $300,000 in compensatory damages.   But $0 in punitive damages.    Harper was seeking more than $6 million in the suit.

Conrad argued Harper's demotion was part of a reorganization needed to combat crime.     The chief called the verdict "disappointing," and said he will not apologize for his actions.
